Abstract

Quality of Work Life (QWL) is a comprehensive concept that encompasses the overall well-being, satisfaction, and fulfillment experienced by employees in their work environment. It refers to the extent to which an employee’s job and workplace contribute to their physical health, mental well-being, job satisfaction, and overall work-life balance (American Association of critical – care nurses, 2022). Moreover, safety climate refers to the shared perceptions of healthcare professionals on aspects within the organization’s culture, that provide healthcare providers’ perceptions to safety. the aim of the safety climate is to avoid adverse outcomes and reduce possible harm to a patient. Resulting from the process of healthcare delivery in a safe climate, interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, peer, and supervisory communication can shape employees’ perceptions (McCabe, & Jia, 2021).
Also, can enhance work engagement among staff nurses, when nurses feel valued, supported, and have a sense of accomplishment in their roles. An important part of being an engaged worker is enjoyment of aspects of life outside work, engaged workers socialize, have hobbies & involved in activities that gives meaning to life (Cajander et al., 2020;& (Shea et al., 2021).
Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the relationship between quality of work life, safety climate and work engagement among staff nurses through :
1. Assessing level of quality of work life among staff nurses,
2. Assessing perception of safety climate among staff nurses,
3. Assessing level of work engagement among staff nurses,
4. Finding out relationship between quality of work life, safety climate and work engagement among staff nurses, research question which was what is the relationship between quality of work life, safety climate and work engagement among staff nurses.
A descriptive correlational research design was utilized in this study. This study was conducted at 11 unit/department at pediatric hospital which affiliated to Ain shams University hospitals. The subjects of this study included (136) staff nurses, they were selected by random simple random sampling.
The data for this study were collected by using Three tools namely: Quality of work life scale, safety climate Questionnaire and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). In addition to section for staff nurses’ personnel and job characteristics.
Results
Based on the main study findings were as the following:
 The majority of staff nurses had high level regarding the domain of ”Work context ”. While slightly more than one quarter of them had low level regarding the domain of ”work design”.
 More than two thirds of staff nurses had high level of total quality of work life.
 The majority of staff nurses perceived high level regarding the dimension of” Safety equipment and housekeeping”.
 The majority of staff nurses perceived high total level of safety climate.
 The majority of staff nurses had high level regarding the dimension of dedication, while less than one fifth of them had low level regarding the dimension of absorption.
 The majority of staff nurses had a high total level of work engagement.
 There was highly significant statistical relationship between quality of work life and staff nurse’s age, and educational qualification. As well as there was significant statistical relationship between quality of work life and staff nurse’s marital status.
 There was highly significant statistical relationship between safety climate and staff nurse’s age, educational qualification. As well as there was significant statistical relationship between safety climate and staff nurse’s marital status & current department.
 There was highly statistically significant relationship between work engagement and their staff nurse’s age and educational qualification.
 There was highly significant positive correlation between staff nurses’ total quality of work life, total safety climate and total work engagement.
Conclusion
In the light of the current study findings, it is concluded that: there was highly significant positive correlation between staff nurses ‘total quality of work life, total safety climate and total work engagement. This finding answer research question which was what is the relationship between quality of work life, safety climate and work engagement among staff nurses.

Recommendations
Based on current study findings the following are recommended:
At the organizational level:
- Administrators have to provide work-life balance for staff nurses. Through offer flexible scheduling options, encourage regular breaks during shifts, and provide access to counseling or support services to address work-related stressors.
- Administrators carry out regular assessment for workplace safety climate to ensure safety climate is well settled or not.
- Head nurse have to periodically share in decision-making & revising units ‘goals & objectives to increase nurses work engagement level.
At the educational level:
- Establish a training center in the hospital have to implement quality of work life improvement programs to ensure a higher level of quality of work life.
- Conduct comprehensive safety training programs and protocols in hospitals to encourage staff nurses to actively participate in safety initiatives.
At the future research level:
- Identify and evaluate interventions that can enhance staff nurse’s quality of work life.
- Explore the effectiveness of safety climate improvement initiatives on staff nurses’ perceptions of safety and engagement.
- Investigate potential cross-cultural variations in the relationship between quality of work life, safety climate, and work engagement among staff nurses.
