Summary
Introduction: In recent years, there has clearly been an interest in the emotional information processing, those that include, emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and emotional expression, and given the importance of these processes in the life of the individual in addition to their great impact on social interactions in various fields of life, researchers have been invited to research The relationship between emotional information processing and some other psychological variables within the scope of normal personality.
The current study and previous studies also showed that the emotional information processing is affected by many variables, including emotional schemas that contain the individual’s cognition and previous experiences during his interactions with others, and emotional understanding, which expresses the way in which the individual identifies, interprets and predicts his emotions and the emotions of others. He can deal with the emotional situation. Previous studies did not care about the effect of the difference in schema and emotional understanding in the processing of emotional information. The focus of the researchers’ interest appeared in the scope of the abnormal personality.
Study Objective:
The current research aims to determine the impact of the difference in emotional schema and emotional understanding in the emotional information processing, combined and separately, for a sample of third-year students at the Faculty of Education - Ain Shams University in the academic year 2021/2022.
Study problem:
Previous studies were not interested in studying the effect of the difference in schema and emotional understanding in emotional information processing, among university students in the domain of normal personality.
The research problem was identified in the following questions:
What is the effect of the difference in the emotional schema on emotional information processing together and its sub-components as :emotional awareness - emotional regulation - emotional expression.
What is the effect of the difference in emotional understanding on emotional information processing combined and its sub-components as: emotional awareness - emotional regulation - emotional expression.
What is the effect of the interaction of the emotional schema and emotional understanding on emotional information processing together and its sub-components, as: emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and emotional expression
Study importance
1- The current research is an attempt to fill a gap in this field, as despite the importance of emotional processing among university students, in particular in dealing with emotional life situations - it has been noted that there is a scarcity of Arab research in this field.
2- The research gains its importance from the nature of the variables of the emotional schema and the emotional understanding, in which the research is relatively recent in Arab studies and has not been dealt with emotional processing operations.
3- The results of the study benefit those working within educational institutions in building counseling and training programs that focus on managing emotions in daily life situations, and seeking to create a climate for emotional learning
Method &Procedures
Study Methodology: the study used the descriptive Method, which commensurate with its objectives and hypotheses
Subjects
Tools Sample:(N=200) to verify the psychometric properties of the study tools.
The Basic Study Sample:It was consisted of (315) males and females of third-year students at the College of Education. from different scientific and literary Majors from Ain Shams University
Tools:
The researcher prepared: five measures of emotional schema, emotional understanding,emotional awreness,emotional regulation,emotional expression.
Procedures
1- Selecting the study sample from different scientific and literary Majors from Ain Shams University
2- in the second semester in the year 2021,Applying five scales to university students, , all of which were prepared by the researcher. This was done after verifying Psychometric properties (, such as the validity of the content, the validity of the factor analysis exploratory and confirmatory, and the stability of the scale in two ways (Cronbach’s alpha). ) and the use of SPSS, version (26) and AMOS, version (26)
3- Conducting a statistical analysis using the multivariate analysis of variance method, to determine the effect of the independent study variables (schema and emotional understanding) on the dependent variables (emotional information processing) combined and separately, and the interaction between them.
Results:
the results of the multivariate analysis of variance concluded that there were statistically significant differences in the processing of emotional information combined according to the difference in emotional schema (low / high), for those with of high Emotional schema. There are statistically significant differences in the processing of emotional information combined, according to the difference in the emotional understanding (low / high). for those with high emotional understanding and there is no statistically significant effect of the dual interaction between the schema and emotional understanding on the processes of processing emotional information processing (combined( there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of emotional information processing )awareness – regulation – expression emotional) according to the emotional schema (low-high), and there are differences between the mean scores of emotional information processing (Awareness – Regulation – Expression emotional) according to the emotional understanding (low-high), and there is no effect of the interaction between the emotional schema and understanding on separate processing -Emotional information processing..
