Abstract

This investigation carried out through the years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Physical and chemical mutagenesis performed using gamma ray radiation, colchicine and sodium azide solutions, which were applied to stem cuttings of Abees and Mabrouka popular common cultivars to produce new distinct sweet potato clones. The cuttings were exposed to gamma ray or immerged in colchicine or sodium azide solutions. The 300 clones of the growing plants were harvested individually and all the growing plants were inspected based on selecting the best clones in terms of the produced tuberous roots morphology and its physical characteristics. Of mutant plants, only 8 new clones were selected for evaluation in two field trials along with the two common Egyptian cultivars Abees and Mabrouka. The evaluation was at the Experimental and Research Farm of The Faculty of Agriculture (Saba-Basha), Alexandria University, at Abees area, Alexandria governorate, Egypt. The study concerned with the response of new selected sweet potato clones to water stress under drip irrigation system. Four irrigation treatments applied during two successive summer seasons of 2017 and 2018. Irrigation treatments were at the rate of 25, 50, 75 and 100% from evapotranspiration.
