Abstract

Experiments were carried out during the two successive seasons of 2016 and 2017 .Trials were undertaken and observed in the experimental farm of Fac. of Agric., Ain shams Univ. Cairo, Egypt.
5.1. Plant materials:-
At the first week of February of both seasons seeds of thyme were kindly provided by ”Sekem” company of medicinal and aromatic plants were sown in nursery. After 45 days, seedling were transplanted in 30 cm diameter plastic pots filled with 10 kg of clean and washed sand in combining with 1/2 kg compost from El-khalil company, 10 g of calcium superphate, 15.5% (representing as 200 Kg per fed) and 15 g potassium sulphate, 48% representing as 150 Kg per fed.
71
Chemical and physical properties of used compost (El Khalil Compost):
All horticultural practices including irrigation, mineral fertilization except nitrogen source, micro nutrient sp eying and pest and diseases control were done as used recommendation in this respect.
72
5.2. Expermental treatments:-
Three types of nitrogen fertilizers were used; Ammonium Nitrate 33.5%, Ammonium Sulphate 20.6% and Urea 46.5%, also three doses of each type were used. So, the treatments were designed as Follows:-
T1 : 80 unit of ammonium Nitrate T2 : 60 unit of ammonium Nitrate
T3 : 40 unit of ammonium Nitrate T4 : 80 unit of ammonium Sulphate
T5 : 60 unit of ammonium Sulphate T6 : 40 unit of ammonium Sulphate
T7 : 80 unit of urea T8 : 60 unit of urea T9 : 40 unit of urea
-regarding to the time of application, the dose of each pot were divided into three doses: mid of may, mid of June and mid of July in the two seasons.
5.3. The results obtained in this study could be summarized as follows:
1- An increase in number of lateral branches with T 2 (60 unit) and T 3 (40 unit of ammonium nitrate) in 1st season, while the increase was with T 3 (40 unit) and T 4 (40 unit of ammonium nitrate) in 2nd Season.
2- An increase in plant height with T 3 (40 unit of ammonium nitrate).
3- The heighest value of ester number with T 7 (80 unit of urea).
4- The heighest value of acid number with T 7 (80 unit of urea).
5- The heighest value of amino acid with T 7 (80 unit of urea).
73
6- The best effect to reduce NO3 as a lowest value was with T 6 (40 unit of ammonium sulphate) in 1st season, while better with T 9 (40 unit of urea) in 2nd Season.
7- The best effect to reduce NO2 as a lowest value was T 6 (40 unit of ammonium sulphate) in 1st season, while better with T 3 (40 unit of ammonium nitrate) in 2nd Season.
8- The heighest value of herb fresh weight percentage was recorded by T 9 (40 unit of urea).
9- The heighest value sugar percentage was recorded by T 9 (40 unit of urea).
10- The heighest phenol with T 8 (60 unit of urea).
11- The heighest herb dry weight with T 6 (40 unit of ammonium sulphate).
12- The heighst value of flavonoid with T 3 (40 unit of ammonium nitrate).
13- The heighst value of volatile oil with T 2 (60 unit of ammonium nitrate).
14- The highest concentration of thymol and linalool with T 7 (80 unit of urea)
