The Coinage of Al- Muhammadiya during the First and Second Abbasid Ages (158-334 A.H/ 765-945 A.D) Topic is Considered one of the Important topics in the Islamic Numismatics, however this importance few Scholars have Studied the Coins of Al- Muhammadiya In general studies, and that which encouraged me to choose this Topic to be a subject for my ATH.D.
I’ll deal with this Topic using an integrated Scientific Method throughout two ways:
First: Studying the history of all dynasties which ruled Al- Muhammadiya during the First and Second Abbasid Ages .
Second: Studying the Coins of Al- Muhammadiya Comcentrating on the most Important examples of the Coins of each ruler of Al- Muhammadiya during that time then analyzing the texts, inscriptions and the decorations (depictions) in the light of Current events during that time .
This Study depended on different Sources, the most important source is Coins of Al- Muhammadiya, which Considered the main source of this study.
I Classified the Coins of Al- Muhammadiya mint house during the first ad second Abbasid ages to have enough knowledge about the military, Political, economic and social history of Al- Muhammadiya town during the First and Second Abbasid ages throughout analayzing the texts, the inscriptions, depictions and decorations of Al- Muhammadiya Coins to interpretain them in light of current historical sources and current historical events.
I divided this study into two Parts, First Part includes, the sources on which this study based on, then the introduction which includes a short account of the history of Al- Muhammadiya and the dynasties which ruled it, following that the describable study which contains the Catalogue which has plates for 133 Pieces minted in Al- Muhammadiya during that time, among these plates, there are 128 plates for Unbupulished Pieces, Classifying as Following 96 Pieces Preserved in Ahmed Qarroush Private Collection in Dubai,16 Pieces Preserved in Tubingen University in Germany,8 Pieces Preserved in Abd- Almagid Al- Khariagy Private Collection in Al- Madina Al- Munawara in Saudi Arabia Kingdom, One Piece Preserved in King Abd- Al- Aziz Library in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, 7 Pieces Preserved in Qatar National Museum in Dowha, Plus 5 Pieces have been Published before .
The second part is devoted to the analyzing study and divided into three Chapters:
Firet Chapter about the Coinage of Al- Muhammadiya during the first Abbasid age.
Second one about the Coins of Al- Muhammadiya during the Second Abbasid age .
Third one about the Coins of the independent states from Abbasid Caliphate .
Following that the Conclusion which Contains the Out Comes and the results of this study, then Arabic and foreign references on which this study based on .
