Abstract
The problem this thesis deals with is the difficulty of publishing multimedia on the Internet. The main difficulty of publishing multimedia on the Internet is the bandwidth limitation of the media used for transferring data from server to client over the Internet. This limitation in bandwidth is the problem that already exists for transferring all data types over the Internet, but it has the worst effect for transferring multimedia data over the Internet because multimedia data normally have a large size such as pictures, sound, and video.
There are many techniques that are already used for solving this problem and these techniques will be discussed during the thesis. In addition this thesis presents a new method that can be used to satisfy the following items: -
1- Reducing the space required for storing pictures.
2- Reducing the time required for downloading pictures.
3- Reducing the time required for browsing pictures.
