Abstract

Time management is an asset of related common sense skills that helps managers to use their time in the most effective and productive way possible. Meanwhile, leadership style is the manner in which managers use interpersonal behavior to influence others and accomplish the goals of the organization. Serious leadership and management problems may result from ineffective use of time. This study was carried out in four hospitals from the governmental and private sectors. Al-Harm and Al-Agouza hospitals represented the governmental sector, while Al-Nozha and Cleopatra represented the private sector. The study sample included 100 nursing leaders. Data collection was done using 4 different tools for assessment of time management, leadership, time interruptions, and leadership style. The study results have revealed that the majority of nursing leaders in the sample had a high ability in time planning, which also increased with experience. As for time interruptions, they were frequent, and the internal less than the external. Meanwhile, only a minority of nursing leaders had good delegation abilities, and generally the majority of them had moderate abilities in time management. Also, the study has shown that the great majority of nursing leaders were using the mixed leadership style. Based on these results, it was recommended to provide educational and training programs in nursing administration and leadership, and that these skills be included in nursing curricula at different levels. Also, the hospitals must have flexible policies that would allow more delegation at work.
