Abstract Governments and different international organizations create an almost global awareness of the risks and damage associated with oil spills . In recent years, a number of accidents involving oil tankers, storage tanks and pipelines have resulted in introduction of relatively large quantities of oil into marine environment There are a number of methods available for dealing with oil spills: 1- Chemical removal method: by spraying the oil slick by chemical substances . this method has many side effects to the marine environment 2- Mechanical removal method: mechanical removal of oil is generally considered as having certain advantages over chemical removal as no additional substances are introduced into the marine environment , in addition that the oil removed mechanically can be reused One of the most effective mechanical devices that can be used is a skimmer In this work, the effects of different parameters on disk skimmer characteristics are investigated experimentally and theoretically. |
