Abstract

‎This research attempts to develop the cyberspace architecture as a comprehensive approach to achieve the virtual wayfinding inside buildings.
‎The tools of the traditional wayfinding were always used to define the path of the user inside a building by building his mental map and therefore enhancing his perception of the space he moves through, However these tools do not give a full precise perception of the space.
‎Recent conceptions of the cyberspace architecture with its levels provide new approaches and tools of navigation inside the buildings which are built using the virtual wayfinding tools. This study explores the potentials of using computer-based interactive technologies to build an interactive digital schematic map that enable the user to navigate through the actual building using a virtual counterpart of this building by what is know as a ”cyber-model” equipped with the virtual wayfinding tools. The study investigates the general theoretical and technical issues involved in developing virtual wayfinding inside the cyberspace architecture.
‎The approach to achieve the study objective was to develop an interactive digital navigation tool for one of the museums of the city of Alexandria (Graeco-Roman museum), and to demonstrate the development of the cyber-model used in the interactive digital navigation tool. This was conducted as a proposal for providing virtual navigation aiding tool for important buildings in Egypt.
