Abstract The present thesis includes a study of the spectral behaviour of some benzalphthalides and phenylindandiones in both organic solvents and solvent-water mixtures. The investigation is carried out using absorption spectrophotometry in the Ultraviolet visible regions in media of different polarities and in the infrared region. The study is aimed to throw light on the molecular structure of these compounds and its possible interaction in different media. The investigation includes also the polarographic behaviour of the above mentioned compounds since the study of idandione 1,3-derivatives has attracted a growing interest as it entails some theoretical problems such as tautomerisation and reactivity and because it is related to the discovery of new medicinal preparations i.e. blood anti-coagulants, anti-convulsive and effective rodenticides. |
