Abstract The study deals with the setting up of a one dimensional mathematical model for the simulation of unsteady flow in open channels. The flow hydraulic parameters were predicted, the numerical solution was discussed and the mathematical models steps were examined. A one dimensional mathematical model for both heat transport and diffusion is developed based on the results of the previous model. In order to overcome the deficiency in the predeveloped models regarding the stability and accuracy, a sophisticated numerical technique was utilized. Two applications have been done on two thermal power plants using this mathematical model and the results obtained showed good agreement with both field measurements and physical model results so the developed mathematical model application is reliable. The conclusion is that we can not replace the physical models by the mathematical models but the integration between both techniques is necessary to obtain a global and proper solution for the phenomena of heat exchange in open channels. |
