Abstract Susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis is genetically determined, but the trigger of the disease cannot be determined accurtely. Genes within the major histocompatibility complex are clearly major determinants of susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis and the susceptibility accounts for nearly 50%. HLA-B27 accounts for a minority of the overall genetic susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis. Diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis is a problem especially in the early stage of the disease. Early diagnosis of sacroiliitis of ankylosing spondylitis can be made clinically if 2 of the following parameters were present together. |
