Abstract

This :cesearch was carried ouc on 8 dentulous subjects
‘who were advised for clearance, to explore the coincidence or the difference between inter—cuspal position (before extraction) and the centric relation recorded using Gothic— arch tracer. For every subject, the following was done:—
- Dentulous casts were mounted on a dentatus articulator in an inter—cuspation to have a reference point.
- Teeth were extracted, trimmed on the casts, then, a modified intra—oral Gothic—arch tracer was mounted with the record blocks on the articulator, in the inter—cuspal position.
- Three weeks following extraction of all remaining the teeth, centric relation records using Gothic—arch tracer were obtained from the patient through two main methods: Active retrusion and passive retrusion of the mandible to a centric position (with and without muscle relaxant).
Conclusion :— from this study the following is concludei :—
(1) The centric relation determined by all the methods used was posterior to the intercuspal position, i.e., centric
relation is not coincident with centric occlusion.
(2) The active registration of centric relation with and without muscle—relaxant does not produce a maximum
possible retruded position, yet it is still posterior to the inter—cuspal position.
