Abstract

Although conjoined twins are a rare occurrence; yet, several
successful separations were reported.
As they possess a unique morphology, physiology and
development; so they present a great challenge to all medical and surgical
specialties starting from antenatal diagnosis, passing through surgical
separation stage , and ending by postoperative management.
Successful anesthetic management of conjoined twins ’separation
requires a highly and experienced anesthetic team having a clear
understanding of the degree of cross circulation and possible intra and
postoperative complications.
Classification of conjoined twins, essential preoperative
investigations required, choice of anesthetic team, and intraoperative
anesthetic management will be discussed with special emphasis on
airway management, special types, ethical dilemma, and famously
separated conjoined twins.
