Abstract Although conjoined twins are a rare occurrence; yet, several successful separations were reported. As they possess a unique morphology, physiology and development; so they present a great challenge to all medical and surgical specialties starting from antenatal diagnosis, passing through surgical separation stage , and ending by postoperative management. Successful anesthetic management of conjoined twins ’separation requires a highly and experienced anesthetic team having a clear understanding of the degree of cross circulation and possible intra and postoperative complications. Classification of conjoined twins, essential preoperative investigations required, choice of anesthetic team, and intraoperative anesthetic management will be discussed with special emphasis on airway management, special types, ethical dilemma, and famously separated conjoined twins. |
