Abstract A year around field survey (March, 1994 - February, 1995) was carried out in five ecological areas representing the various ecosystms in Kuwait State, to identify and study mosquito species larval composition, distribution, population density and fluctuation according to these ecological areas in the country. Also, certain physical and chemical factors in larval aquatic habitat, in relation to larval species distribution and density, were included. The study was extended to include some laboratory biological and toxicological experiments on the prevailing mosquito larval species Culex (Cx.) pipiens complex. The results obtained in the present study showed that: . Nine species were detected in the following descending order: Culex (C>s.) pipiens molestus (63.32), Cx. (Cx.) pipiens quinquefasdatus (27.73), Aedes. (Ochlerotatus) caspius (~4), Cx. ( Barraudius) pusillus (2.56), Culiseta (Allotheobaldia) longiareolata (0.48 ), Cx. (Cx.) Iritaeniorhynchus (0.05),. Anopheles (Myzomyia) stephensi (0.02), An. (Myzomyia) pulcherrimus (0.002) and Cu. (Allotheobaldia) inornata (0.002 ). |
