Abstract An exprimental study on the effect of vapour speed on the heat transfer coefficient during condensation was undertaken. A double pipe horizontal condenser type was used where condensation occurs on the external surface of the inner tube. An experimental set-up was designed and fabricated for this purpose. Test runs were carried on this set-up. The results obtained were analyzed to study the effect of the vapour speed on the beat transfer coefficient and obtain the relationship between the dimensionless groups which discribe tbis phenomenon. Another test condenser was designed and fabricated similar to the previous one but in other dimensions. Additional test runs were carried on it. The runs covered vapour speed value of J.J (m/s) to 8 (ml s) . The effect of vapour speed on the condensation number and the condensate film Reynolds number was also investigated. Mathematical relationships were obtained to relate all of these variables to the vapour speed in which the correlations between Rev, Pr, Nu, Co, and Ref were presented. |
