Abstract
This thesis is devoted to design an effective system through one of the basic service industries
which is of special importance to our community, i.e. health care industry.
The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part ”Quality Management Systems in
Health Care” contains four chapters. This part is concerned with the process needed to transform
our health care organizations to achieve performance excellence. Changes in the marketplace,
customer requirements, advance in science and medicine, competition, worker skills and
availability, and technology (to name a few) have forced organizations to change the way they
manage their business in order to succeed.
In order to optimize organizational performance, we use the principles contained 111 the
Baldrige criteria.
The second part ”Statistical Process Control of Health Care Performance” contains four
additional chapters. It introduces the concept of SPC to health care organizations to achieve and
maintain high quality performance levels through it. Data collection and measurements, process
improvement and control, analyzing aggregated data, and obtaining meaningful data are all
subjects analyzed and discussed through this part .
