Abstract

This work aimed at studying some factors which may play a role in the development of lymphoma, also, to provide a comparative statistical study of the results of different-lines of therapy. To achieve this purpose, all records of patients presenting with lymphoma and referred to the radiotherapy department (wheth~r received treatment or not) over a period of 10 years. The present study included 1224 consecutive cases of Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s disease seen from January 1976 till December 1985. The study aimed to _the statistical analysis of the different , parameters that may affect’the morbidity of lymphoma in Alexandria, and to calculate the life table survival rates. Informations related to the patient himself, diagnosis, treatment methods, result of treatment and follow-up were . ­ collected. Follow-up information was obtained from the patients record in case of patient who were still attending the radiotherapy department. U nfollowed cases by the radiotherapy department were checked for follow-up at Alexandria C~cer Registry. For all patients lost to follow-up clinic at the radiotherapy department and asking about the patient condition and data of death. The actuanal or life table approach for treated lymphoma cases was used in the calculation of swvival of these patients. Analysis of the results: General description of cases: Patients were divided into two main groups: Hodgkin’s disease (352 cases) and non-Hodgkin-s disease (456 cases). The study showed a relative high incidence of non-Hodgkin’s disease (673 cases, 55.0).
