Abstract
This work included 24 infante with acute infantile diarrhea and 8 healthy infants as control group. The infants with diarrhea were divided into 3 groups: mild, moderate and severe dehydration groups. Each group comprised 8 infants. Nan of the studied cases showed haemorrhaglc manifestations.
All infants were exposed on admission to rehydration center or the ward to careful history taking, thorough clinical examination in addition to the following laboratory investigations: platelet count, platelet adhesion, platelet aggregation, prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time with kaolin, serum FDP level, euglobulin clot lysis time, serum sodium, serum potassium and haematocrit.
Mild dehydration group:
All laboratoty tests showed Insignificant changes
except serum sodium which showed significamt decrease
from the control values.
Moderate and severe dehydration qroupsi
Platelet count and serum potassium showed significant decrease from the control values,While PT, PTTK, serum FDP, platelet aggregation showed significant
