Abstract

[‘this prospective study included 40 breast cancer patients with MBC presenting o Menoufia University Hospital Clinical Oncology department from May 2004 intil December 2006. Patients were randomized into two groups: Group A [20 patients] CisplatinfNavelbine group, and Group B [20 patients] CisplatinlCapecitabine group.
There was no statistically significant difference in response rate between both groups with the higher RR in Group A. In Group A, the overall response rate was 47.4% (9/19 patients), with no complete responses, stable disease in 21.1% (4/19 patients) and progression in 3 1.6% (6/19 patients). In Group B, the overall response rate was 36.8% (7/19 patients), with a CR of 15.8% (3/19 patients) and PR of 2 1.1% (4/19 patients), stable disease in 31.6% (6/19 patients) and progression in 26.3% (5/19 patients).
There was no statistically significant difference in duration of response, median TTP and overall survival between both groups with Group B showing higher TTP and OS. In Group A, the median duration of response was 6 months (with a range of 2.5 to 13 months) and 9 months in Group B. The median fTP was 4 months (7 months in responders) and 6 months in Group A & B respectively. The median overall survival was 10 months in Group A and 16 months in Group B.
