Abstract

This prospective study was done on 30 patients with hyperhydrosis. Patients’ data were collected and evaluated in the period between October 2005 and April 2007 in Menoufiya University Hospitals. Hyperhidrosis of the upper limb was the main symptom in all patients while hyperhydrosis of the face as well was present in 2 cases and hyperhidrosis of axilla in 2 patients, upper limb hyperhydrosis was identified in all cases. The 30 patients included 18 females and 12 males with age between 16-30 years old.
For all patients, accurate clinical history including duration of the symptoms, the presence of family history and associated medical diseases as hypertension, or diabetes mellitus was done.
During history taking secondary causes of increased sweating were analyzed particularly thyrotoxicosis and excluded by laboratory tests. So, all patients were proved to be idiopathic primary hyperhidrosis.
The patients were randomized into two groups; the first group underwent throacoscopic sympathectomy operation “Group A” while the second group underwent open transaxillary sympathectomy
