Abstract

This work was carried out on 100 pregnant females who were attending the out-patient clinics of Menoufiya University 1-lospital, out-patient clinics of Shebin El-Kom Teaching Hospital and Maternity & Childhood Health Center (MCH) of Menoufiya Governorate. They were 18 pregnant females in the Ith trimester, 43 in the 2nd trimester, and 39 in the 3rd trimester. All of them were subjected to full history ( name - age - parity - trimester - contraceptive methods prior to pregnancy — I).M ), complaints
(burning micturation, frequency - dysuria - hematuria - urgency .).
Mid. stream urine sample (under aseptic condition) was collected after washing the external genetalia and was subjected to full microscopical examination, bacteciological count and isolation and identification of different organisms were perfomed.
Out of 100 pregnant females, 28% had bacteriuria, of them 13 cases (46%) had symptomatic hacteriuria, and 1 5 cases (54%) ha(1 asylilpiolnat iC baCtCflUfiL.
Also it WS found that the incidence of bacteriuria during )regl1aI1cy decreased w i Lii increasing I lie age, and it was more in urban (75%) than in rural areas (25%), in muhipara (64%) than in primigravida (36%) , in the 3 trimester (50%) than in other trimesters and it increased in women who did not use contraceptive methods prior to pregnancy (64%).
