Abstract

In this thesis, 30 cases with post-traumatic unstable subaxial cervical spine fracture and dislocations were operated by the anterior cervical approach where anterior decompression whether discectomy or corpectomy, bone fusion by bone graft from the iliac crest, and fixation by locking plate and screws were done.
from the results of this study, the following is concluded: The most common cause of cervical spine injuries is motor vehicle accidents, followed by falls. It occurs commonly in males in the 3rd and 4th decades of life due to the high activity of this group.
The most common type of cervical spine injuries, is subluxation. It occurs commonly at the level of C5-6 as it is the most mobile and flexible region of the spine.
Clinical presentation of cervical spine injuries may be complete cord injury, incomplete cord injury and neck pain and ridiculer manifestations.
All patients with polytrauma should be considered as cases of cervical spine injury until proved otherwise and hard neck collars were applied during transport and during doing investigations with strict limitation of the movement of the spine.
