Abstract In this thesis anatomy of the skull, causes of the cranial defects and different methods for reconstruction of these defects were reviewed. In addition, twenty patients of post — traumatic skull bone defects, admitted in neurosurgery department, menoufiya university hospital, were included in this thesis. For every patient proper history was taken, general and neurological examination, plain x — ray skull and C.T scan were done. Reconstruction of these defects were done using autogenous bone grafts (iliac and rib grafts) and synthetic materials (titanium mesh and porous polyethylene blocks “Medpor”). The results were as follows: • 95% of patients were satisfied by their new cosmetic appearance, the result were good to excellent. • 5% of the patients were not satisfied by their new cosmetic appearance. • 5% of all patients suffers complications in the form of infection. The graft was removed in 5% of cases (infected case). |
