Abstract The extensive use of carbamzepine and sodium vaiproate for treatment of epilepsy especially in children is of great importance and is life saving in some cases. Tt is difficult to separate the effects of drugs used from the effects of the underlying disease, social factors and seizures itself. The safety evaluation of atiepileptic Jrugs is the field of many controversal studies starting from their toxicity to their behavioral and psychogenic ones. utag, enicity tests were found to be one of the most re]abie and very sensitive measures for ascesment of the de-ree of drug safety. The present study aimed to investigate the possible cytogenetic findinges in epileptic children, the possible cytogenetic effects of carbamazepine and sodium valproate and asses their safety from the mutagenic point of view. |
