Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease and is
considered as one of the common joint diseases encountered in people
between the third and fifth decades of life . It is well Known that the
disease affects females more than males . The clinical course of the
disease is fluctuating and its prognosis is unpredictable . Many bone
changes are associated with this chronic inflammatory disease
These bone changes are mostly in the form of disorders in mineral
contents of the bone and change in the quantity of bone matrix . So
osteopenia , osteoporosis , erosions and osteomalacia may be present
.with rheumatoid disease .
The aim of this work was to detect the bony changes and its
irelated biochemical abnormalities that may occur with rheumatoid
’^arthrtis either early , advanced or when corticasteroids were
introduced in the therapy of the disease .
The present study was carried on thirty rheumatoid arthritis
patients and ten normal healthy persons as controls . The rheumatoid
.patients were classified into three main groups ;
firoup A ; Included ten early rheumatoid arthritic patients not under
Icorti co steroid therapy .
