Abstract

This study is considered as an exercise to demonstrate the group comparison and derivation of standard values of both chosen general and industrial secondary school pupils. To achieve this,417 normal pupils(216 from the general school and 201 from the industrial school) were chosen. The independent variables ; age., height and weight were measured. Physical examination and ventilatory function tests using the compact vitalgraph were performed. The study results showed that both general and industrial secondary school pupils have the same ventilatory functions, when age is corrected for.In the multiple correlation, age showed no correlation with any of the ventilatory functions although in simple correlation it was correlated to volume measurements (Vc, FVc, and FEV1) in both school as well as the PEF and FEF25-75 in case of industrial school pupils. However, the age showed a possible non linear correlation which was evident by the peak values of the functions of different groups at different ages.
