Abstract This study was done in Shebin EL-Kom company for spinning and weaving. The environmental part of this work involved noise level measurement at different work shifts. In all these shifts the noise level ranged from 90-96 dB (A) with a median of 92 dB (A).-23 workers exposed to continuous noise and engaged in winding process were selected randomly. Their ages ages ranged from 25-40 years (to exclude the effect of bresbycusis).A control group of workers (20) of the same age range and never exposed to noise were selected randomly from the administrative department. Each worker in either exposed or control group was subjected to questionnairing, clinical examination and audiometry. In each shift two audiograms were recorded one before and the other immediately after the end of the shift. This study aims to :-1-To study the median noise level in the working place in the morning / evening / night shifts.2- To determine the pre shift hearing threshold level of right and left ears in each shift to explore any variability in hearing sensitivity between both ears.3-To determine the pre shift hearing threshold level in both noise exposed and control groups to explore any pre shift variation in both group.4-To assess the noise induced temporary and permanent threshold shift in the noise exposed group.5-To determine the probable effect of shift work on noise induced temporary loss. |
