Abstract

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow may be affected by various disorders, such as : obstructing lesions, abnormal CSF spaces, loculations. and development of pathologic cavities (cysts, syrinx).
Conventional evaluation of the normal and abnormal CSF circulation is often performed on the basis of the morphologic appearance of the CSF spaces and the characteristics of CSF flow,.
The production and flow of human CSF has been studied since the 1940s, however, early investigations were of limited value due to invasive techniques available at this time.
With appearance of MRI as a non invasive imaging technique, it is applied for study of C.S.F flow inside the spinal canal, adjacent third and fourth ventricles, assesement of spinal cord motion, Syringomyelia, arachnoid cysts, hydrocephalus with its various disorders as : communicating hydrocephalus, noncommunicating hydrocephalus and normal pressure hydrocephalus, also it is useful in assesment of third ventriculostomy.
Evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid flow By Magnetic Resonance Imaging has created a new and unique opportunity to observe and analyze non-invasively a wide varieties of disorders affecting the central nervous system.
