Abstract

The caliber of the external urinary meatus varies widely from one person to another, and there is a great debate about the limits of its normal size.
Some investigators demonestrated a oausal relationship between the size of the meatus and other urinary disorders, and meatotomy was the treatment for such disorders i,e, vesicoureteral reflux and enuresis.
In the present study, 140 normal male subjects have been studied and are categorized into seven age groups.
Uroflowmetry was done for every case above 4 years, prior to calibration, to prove normal lower urinary tract.
In calibration, 2 metal graduated dilators were used one of then graduated from 15 (F) through 30 (F), the other graduated from 6 (F) to 14 (F).
The average caliber between 30 years and above 60 years, was found between 24 and 29.5 (F) and so this can be considered as a variation of normal caliber in adults.
The average caliber in the different age groups was found to be 11 F in age group from 1-10 years, 18 F in age group from 11 - 20 years, 24 F in age group from 21 - 30 years, 26.5 F in age group from 31 - 40
