Abstract

Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is considered to be one of the most suitable crops that can be grown over a wide range of soil types and under many adverse conditions than other grain crops and it represented the main crop grown on large scale in the rain fed areas of Egypt and Libya as well. In genetics; taxonomy, phylogeny, protein isozymes polymorphism; and RAPD-PCR to assay genetic fingerprint and diversity in barley has bean successfully used by many investigators to identify cultivars in various crops species .
The present investigation aimed in identifying some barley genotypes to establish database use for the evaluation purposes of breeding and improvement programs. In order to achieve such a purpose ten different genotypes were selected and investigated. These genotypes are classified into three categories: a- Four Egyptian genotypes (G124, G125, G2000 and SW); b- five Libyan genotypes (L4, RE, AR, MK and BI); and C-wild genotype (HM). These genotypes were subjected to morphological measurements, cytogenetical examination; biochemical genetic markers (SDS-PAGE; Proline and isozyme variations); molecular genetic fingerprints (RAPD-PCR); Phylogenetic relationships analysis; and finally to establish data base for these genotypes.
