Abstract

This study was carried out in Mansoura University Hospital in order to examine the relationship between motivating work factors and empowerment among staff nurses. It was conducted at medical, surgical and orthopedic units of Mansoura University Hospital. It include 195 nurses (67 working in medical units, 83 working in surgical units and 45 working in orthopedic units). Data collection tools included two types of self-administered questionnaire sheets: there is a highly significant correlation between components of motivating work factors (Job security, organization policy, work nature, supervision, responsibility, interaction and responsibility) and the components of empowerment (information, support, resources and opportunity) nurses at Mansoura University Hospital were moderately motivated. Nurses with diploma with specialty were more motivated and more empowered than with baccalaureate degree. Nurses working in medical units were more motivated and more empowered than nurses working in surgical and orthopedic units. It’s recommended to increase the need of the staff for development through placement of staff nurses on hospital committees would facilitate professional development through the expansion of personal knowledge and enhanced leadership skills. Participation in training programs, job advancement and sharing in decision making.
