Abstract The present work was carried out to determine the efficacy of the plant growth regulators [Pix (mepiquat chloride) & Brelex (Gibberellic acid) “GA3”] and Melia azadrach extracts (Family: Meleacae) on the biology and internal defense system of Biomphalaria Alexandria snails, the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni through laboratory screening tests. The molluscicidal activity of two plant growth regulators, pix and brelex was studied. The plant growth regulator, pix [mepiquat chloride (N,N=dimethylpiperidinium chloride)]proved to have more molluscicidal activity than brelex [gibberellic acid “GA3”(1α,2ß,4aα,4bß,10ß)-2,4a,7-trihydroxy-1-methyl-8-methylenegibb-3-ene-1,10-dicarbowylic acid 1,4a-lactone)] on non-infected Biomphalaria alexandrina snails. The LC50 and LC90 values after 72 hours were 92.73 and 164.17 ppm of mepiquat therefore all the next experiments were done under the effect of mepiquat chloride. The tested sublethal concentration (20 ppm) of and egg production. Mepiquat chloride-treated snails displayed 27% morphological abnormalities and pronounced anomalies of egg masses. |
