المستخلص

Plasma components include fresh frozen plasma (FFP), cryoprecipitate, 24 hours plasma, liquid plasma, cry-poor plasma, recently solvent detergent treated plasma, and donor retested plasma. Plasma components are prepared from whole blood by separating the cellular and liquid portions of blood centrifugation or by apheresis technology.

Plasma and plasma fractions have specific, limited indications and should not be used indiscriminately. Specific coagulation defects should be treated with specific plasma not FFP. FFP is not indicated for volume replacement. Also FFP and cryoprecipitate should not be used for prophylaxis or for abnormal coagulation tests in the absence of bleeding.
