Abstract

a) The study dealt with validity of health certificate, knowledge, attitudes and practices and prevalence of salmonella and parasites among 1200 foodhandlers selected from 6 centers working for health certificates in Alexandria. A systematically selected subsample (n = 200) were subjected to a training and educating program, and after 6 months their knowledge, attitudes and practices were assessed. The study emphasized that all foodhandles gained their health certificates although group of them were having pathogens through laboratory investigations of urine, stool and throat and nasal swabs. Knowledge, attitudes and practices of foodhandlers appeared to be poor and not sufficient to be barriers against foodborne diseases. Implementation of educating and training program proved to be effective, wherer all mean scores of knowledge, attitudes and practices had shown significant improvement after 6 months from intervention.^lEng
