Abstract

Our study was performed to develop a new device (vertical alveolar bone distractor using lag screw principle) to elevate the atrophied alveolar bone posteriorly at the molar region by distraction osteogenesis principle, and show the results of its clinical application. The mechanism of the device is based on lag screw principle. The device consists of 4 componenets; distraction screw, hole implant fixture, supporting plate and 2 metal bands attached to the supporting plate to be seated on the neighboring natural teeth. the distraction screw suspended at the supporiting plate is inserted into the internal thread of the hole implant fixture placed into alveolar trasport segment. If the distraction screw turns at the suporing plate, the hole implant fixutre with trasport segment moves towqrds the supporting plate without vertical movement of the screw at the supporting plate like a llag screw.
