Abstract This study was carried out in Shebin El-Kom city and its district. An intervention-training workshop on communication skills was done for health team in the rural and urban areas chosen by simple random sample and assessments for their knowledge, attitude and practice were done on 3 stages of the study (before, immediately after and 6 months later after the training). Also 300 patients each group (100 patients in each stage of the study; 50 patients from the urban area and 50 from the rural area) were assessed for their satisfaction and compliance. The aim of this work was trying to improve communication skills of the primary health care team through in-service conducted training course and to study the impact of primary health care team communication skills training on knowledge, attitude and practice of the health team and on their patients’ satisfaction and compliance. The fieldwork started at June 2003 and ended in May 2004. The studied health team were subjected to a questionnaire on their personal data, knowledge and attitude towards communication skills also their practice was assessed by a checklist. Also the 3 groups of patients were subjected to a questionnaire on their socio- demographic characteristics, satisfaction and compliance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and ±SD), Wilcoxon signed rank test, Mann -- Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test and Pearson correlation test. |
