Abstract
Osteoarthritis is defined as a complex of interactive degenerative and repair process in cartilage, bone and synovium with secondary components of inflammation. It is a slowly progressive disease, affecting principally hands and large weight bearing joints. This disease was discovered in prehistoric fossils and Egyptian mummies.
Osteoarthritis is classified into two main categories:
I. Idiopathic
A. Localized
B. Generalized (GOA)
II. Secondary to other causes. E.g. trauma, congenital, etc.
