Abstract

Noise is considered the most common occupational exposure in the world. Long-term exposure to noise is a cause of hearing loss, a disabling and irreversible disease. Although noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a potentially preventable disease, it remains an important public health problem. The biological basis of NIHL is a combination of mechanical and metabolic factors. In sugar industry, there is a variable sources of noise with variable levels of sound intensity. The higher levels may lead to sensory neural noise-induced hearing loss. The aim of this study was to detect the possible effects of noise on hearing acuity of exposed workers employed in different sections of Abou-Qurkas sugar factory.
