Abstract

Summary & Conclusion
Leptin was termed from the Greek ”leptos”, meaning ”thin” .Leptin is the 167 amino acid peptide product of the LEP gene (originally termed ob gene). Leptin Crosses the blood-brain barrier ,where ,it acts at the level of the hypothalamus by binding to its receptor and activating secondary signals that inhibit food intake and increase energy expenditure. It plays an impotant role in regulation of body weight ,metabolism, and reproduction .It decrease body weight by inhibition of appetite , mcrease energy expenditure, increase physical activity and lipolysis.
Leptin is secreted mainly in adipose tissue ,and also placenta and gastric epithelium .
Plasma leptin concentration correlates with body fat content and is usually increased in obese subjects. Leptin is sigruficantly greater in women than in men with an equivalent amount of fat. Reproductive hormones, as well as body fat distribution, appear to contribute to the difference in leptin between men and women
Numerous factors alter leptin synthesis and secretion including genetics, various nutrients, sex hormones, insulin, catecholamines, fat free mass, fat stores, and energy balance .The two most important factors are fat store and energy balance
This study aimed to assess the effect of exercise training with different amount of fat diets on plasma lipoproteins, leptin, glucose and insulin and relation between them in male albino rats
Adult male albino rats of local strain were chosen as the animal model for this study, and the animals were divided into six equal groups
(which started with ten rats that finally ended with six rats due to animal death) .
The composition of the different diets were as follow:-
HFD: consisted of 66.5%. fat, 12.5% carbohydrate and 21 % protein MFD: consisted 000% fat,45%carbohydrate, 250/0 protein
LFD: consisted of 12.5% fat, 66.5% carbohydrate and 21 % protein
Rats in exercise group were exercised by swimming 1h/day for 6weeks. The swimming exercise was performed in plastic barrel (50cm) diameter filled with water (50cm deep) maintained at 32-36oC.
-rats were weighed usingelectronic balance FY 2000. the nasoanal length was measuredusing stripmeter while the animal was under light anaesthsia from the nose to anus from ventral surface .and the body mass index was calculated (Body mass index = 1 OOOX”./wt (g)/Nasoanal length (em)).
The blood was collected at the start of experiment by retro-orbital route and at the end by decapitation. The experiment program lasts about 6 weeks. The plasma was used for determination of leptin, insulin, glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL-C and LDL-C.
