Abstract Cement dusts containing free silica are currently emitted from Assiut cement factory which is considered as one of the most important sources of free silica pollution in Assiut province. The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of oxidant stress to which workers exposed to free silica are subjected and to put a program for prevention of the impact of such exposure to workers. Our study showed that these workers had marked degree of oxidant stress clarified by significant increase in plasma lipid peroxides (LPER)and significant decrease in plasma superoxide dismutase and erythrocytic catalase in exposed workers compared with controls. Meanwhile , the levels of vitamin C and ceruloplasmin are also significantly increased in these exposed workers in comparison with control. |
