Abstract

Epilepsy is one of the oldest conditions known to mankind, and the most currently prevalent one. It was estimated that 50 million are suffering from the condition world wide.
Epilepsy is considered one of the diseases that affect the quality of life of the patient, as it’s often associated with wrong beliefs. Patient with epilepsy feels fear and worry because of inability of self-control. He also feels of unproductivity especially in adulthood; which’s the individual’s most important stage of life. Seizures also may result in injuries and anticonvulsant drugs may lead to some complications that affect patients lifestyles. Thus patient with epilepsy in turn undertakes some behaviors that are based on his knowledge and beliefs for controlling seizures and complications that may occur.
Nurse’s role is not limited to care for the patient during seizures, but it extends to prevent complications and control seizure occurrence. This makes health education one of the most important roles of the nurse in between seizures.
Recently, the role of behavior in health has been receiving increased attention.
Many causes of death could be prevented through lifestyle changes, especially health-
related behaviors. .
Health-related behaviors (e.g., get enough sleep, having regular balanced diet, stress management, practicing some exercises, compliance with medication etc .. ) are considered the most important items- that the nurse can teach- to make patient feel control over his condition. So the present study aimed to assess health - related behaviors among the epileptic adult patients.
