Abstract Domestic violence is a wide spread problem that occurs among all ages, genders, races, educational back ground and socio-economic groups. The present study aimed to: 1- Study the magnitude of domestic violence among attendants of out patient clinics in Assiut University Hospitals. 2- Assess the underlying factors for it. 3- To identify reaction of wives experiencing domestic violence and the underlying causes of their reaction. The study conducted in Assiut University Hospitals for women who attend the out patient clinics to seek services from (antenatal, gynecological, family planning and sterility clinic). Total number of the sample was 1000 married women, aged 1 8 – 49 years. The data was collected during the period from October 2003 to September 2004. The present study utilized two ways for data collection quantitative and qualitative. The first one was an interview questionnaire sheet which used to collect data such as socio-demographic data, history of violence, underlying causes, health effects and reaction toward violence. The second one was the focus group discussions (FGDs) which utilized to gain insight and identify views of women regarding domestic violence. |
