Abstract Schizophrenia has a significant impact on patients’ social and self care skills. So the aim of the present study was to assess, plan and implement a structured therapeutic activity program and to evaluate its impact on social skills of schizophrenic patients. The sample consisted of 30 schizophrenic patients, the study was conducted in Tahnasha for Mental Health in El Minia city. Four tools were utilized to measure the concepts of the study: Sociodemographic data sheet, Brief Psychiatry Rating Scale (B.P.R.S.) Nurse’s Observation Rating Scale (N.O.R.S) Initiative Rating Scale (I.R.S). a structured therapeutic activity program was developed by the researcher and supervisors to increase patients’ engagement in self care, interpersonal and independent living skills. It is a series of planned activities, being with assessment, planning, and description of the program content, intervention, implementation and evaluation. The necessary statistical analysis were carried out after completion of the program and date collection. Results revealed that, the schizophrenic patients who attend to the (T.A.P), showed significant improvement in psychotic symptoms, their social and inter personal relations, initiative level and gain information relevant to their medication management. It was recommended that the skills training program should be used as a structured nursing intervention to improve the schizophrenic patients’ performance in social, vocational, educational roles to achieved highest level of social function.
