Abstract The present study was done to study the aetiological pattern of short stature in patients attending medical and endocrine outpatient clinics of Assiut University Hospital. A total of 52 patients were examined age 3-40 years. Thirty three of them were males and 19 were females. Complete history taking, clinical examination, anthropometric body measurements, radiological bone survey and hormonal assay were carried out for all patients. Familial short stature was detected in 30.8% of patients aged 8-37 years. Constitutional short stature was founf in 19.2% patients aged 10-18 years of whom 90% were males and 10% females. Microcephaly was found in 9.6% of patients aged 7-10 years; 80%were males and 20% females. Malnutritional patients constituted 9.6% and were aged 3-15 years; 80% were females and 20% males. Patients with hypothyroidism constituted 7-7% Iatrogenic and pituitary insufficiency groups pf patients constituted 5.8%. Miscellaneous causes were found in 11.5% of patients. |
