Abstract The intention of the thesis is to provide a compatible and flexible framework of guidelines for the design of a new generation of airport-terminals.The thesis is divided into four sections. section one provides a critical analysis of the significant innovations in airport planning and design history with regard to function. its purpose is to trace and evaluate the development of design concepts in order to understand their rationale. section two includes a detailed critical analysis of recent airport designs and an evaluation of some of the more innovative and unusual ones. section three includes an evaluation of current thinking in the design of airport- terminals based on extensive recent research in U.S.A. , Europe and Japan.Section four contains the recommendations and a design frame work for a hyprid compatible and flexible airport- terminal and provides guidlines for the design of all the terminals components which define their capacity in terms of an acceptable level of service and delay for all current types of passengers and aircraft. |
