Abstract The aim of the present work is to study the development anatomy of a local variety of sugar cane at different stages of growth. The most important results obtained in this work, can be summarized as follows: 1) The leaf: the origin of the foliage leaf is discussed; no vaseular bundle is detected before leaf primordium is 300 U in length. The basal intercalory meristem is activated to elongate the leaf. 2) Scale leaf: it resembles the ordinary leaf both origin and mode of differentition of vascular bundles. 3) the stem:it originates from the growing apex in the early stage and is composed only of meristematic tissue without the appearance of intemodes . The stem can be divided into three zonesie epidermis cortex and vascular region. |
