Abstract chronic leg ulcers (from 80 cases) were investigated for identification of their possible fungal flora. It was found that, out’of the 92 lesions 73 yielded fungal isolates and 19 were negative. Aspergillus and Penicillium species were the main filamentous fungi isolates. While Q.parapsilosis, C.tropicalis, C. guilliermondii, C. albicans and Saccharomyces were the main yeast and yeast like iso lates. Evidence suggesting autogenous infection occurred in 56of cases from either the foot, the mouth or both. Also fungi persisted after castellani’s paint application for 4 months in most of the treated cases, however some cases showed an improvement of the surrounding skin and healing of the it’ ulcers |
