Abstract

Wheat is indisputably one of the critical agricultural crops in the World Wide In addition to its basic caloric value, wheat with its high protein content is the single most important source of plant protein in the human diet, Wheat head blight or scab, caused by Fusarium graminearum, is a disease of significant socioeconomic importance in the temperate wheat owing regions of the world. Yield losses from scab are due to sterility of the flowers and to formation of shriveled, light test-weight kernels. Scabby grain may be downgraded at the market Scab not only cause yield and quality losses, but may also be associated with fungal toxins (mycotoxins) that cause several health problems in human and animals. Since the cell wall is the primary defense barrier to pathogen attack, strengthening the wall should play a key role in improving the resistance process. Cell wall thickening has been associated with fungal attack in cereals and correlated with resistance against the invaded pathogen.
